Icey vs RealGreen (WorkWave) for Snow Removal: A Snow Tool or a Lawn-Care Platform?

8 min read · Updated 2026-10-29

Icey and RealGreen both run snow removal work, but RealGreen is lawn-care and landscaping software that also covers snow. Pick RealGreen if you run a lawn or landscaping business that plows in winter and want one system all year, with card and ACH payments and direct-mail marketing built in; pick Icey if you work only snow and ice, want to see the price and start free without a demo, or want de-icing priced as its own visit.

We make Icey Software, so read this with that in mind. RealGreen by WorkWave calls itself “all-in-one business software for lawn care, landscaping and other green industry companies”, and its snow removal page pitches running “your snow removal service with the same software you use for your lawn business.” WorkWave’s snow removal page sells the same product.

Every RealGreen fact below is from RealGreen’s and WorkWave’s own websites, as of October 2026: checked on October 29, 2026. RealGreen publishes no prices, so none appear here. Plans change, so confirm on their site before you decide.

The short answer

Pick RealGreen if snow is your winter season and lawn care or landscaping is the rest of your year. The same customers, their history and your crews carry over from lawn to snow, customers can pay by card or ACH in the field or through a self-service customer portal, and its crew app runs on iPhone and Android, offline and in Spanish. Its pricing is quote-based, “based on the size and needs of your business, including the number of users and the features you need”, and you request a demo for a quote.

Pick Icey if you work only snow and ice. Free forever up to 10 sites and 5 crew. Every feature. Paid plans are priced by sites, from $119 CAD a month for 11–35 sites, with every driver included, and you sign up yourself, with no demo call. Its per-event rate cards price plowing and de-icing as separate visits, with the salt included in the price or listed separately.

What RealGreen offers snow companies (as of October 2026)

  • The same software as your lawn business. Its snow removal page shows customer history at a glance, to “quickly pull up last year’s snow services”, and property flags such as a circular drive or “don’t use salt” that carry over year to year.
  • Estimates from online measuring. “Quick estimates and suggested price with online measurement tools, including driveway or pavement measuring isolation.” Proposals go to customers for review and e-signature.
  • Routes for snow. Routes built in batches that honor your business rules, last-minute route changes, and routes set up for residential or commercial properties and for plowing or snow blowing. Its routing page says unfinished work can be rerouted in bulk and that weather data helps inform route planning.
  • Billing. Its snow page lists billing by contract or per push, contract or installment billing, and pre-pay letters and renewals. Customers pay as they go, pre-pay, set up auto-pay or pay through a self-service customer portal.
  • A crew app on iPhone and Android. RealGreen Mobile records start and stop times, has a time clock, shows where every vehicle is with live and passive GPS tracking, stores timestamped, geotagged photos in the customer’s account, captures signatures and records the products used on each job. It takes cash, cheque, card and ACH payments in the field, works offline and has a full Spanish mode. WorkWave’s snow page adds that it sends service reports to customers when a job is done.
  • Marketing for snow. Pre-pay letters and upsells, direct mail to snow removal prospects, and telling your lawn customers that you plow.
  • Accounting. Its CRM page describes a one-way export to QuickBooks: you export a general ledger report as an IIF file and import it.
  • Who and where. Founded in 1984 and part of WorkWave, of Holmdel, New Jersey. It serves the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, from owner-operators to multi-location companies and franchise networks.

Where RealGreen is stronger

  • One system for lawn and snow. If you mow and treat lawns all summer, RealGreen keeps the same customers, history and property notes when you switch to plowing, and its marketing tells your lawn customers you plow. Icey is for snow and ice work only.
  • Getting paid. Customers pay by cash, cheque, card or ACH in the field, pay as they go, pre-pay, set up auto-pay or pay through a self-service customer portal. In Icey you record payments by hand; card payments are not built in.
  • An Android app, in Spanish. RealGreen Mobile runs on iPhone and Android, works offline and has a full Spanish mode. Icey’s Android app is still in testing, so Android crews use the web app.
  • Marketing built in. Pre-pay letters, upsells and direct mail to snow removal prospects come with it.
  • Depth and scale. RealGreen was founded in 1984 and serves companies up to multi-location operations and franchise networks. Icey is a younger product, self-serve since July 2026, with fewer reviews.

Where Icey is stronger, or simply different

  • A free plan and a price you can see. Free forever up to 10 sites and 5 crew. Every feature. Paid plans are priced by sites, from $119 CAD a month for 11–35 sites, with every driver included, and you sign up yourself. RealGreen’s pricing is quote-based, its site lists no prices, and it says it does not offer a free trial.
  • Built for snow and ice only. Icey’s per-event rate cards price plowing and de-icing as separate visits, with the salt included in the price or listed separately, or you sell a seasonal contract paid in monthly instalments. RealGreen’s snow page names billing by contract or per push; ask how it handles a per-event rate card with de-icing as its own visit.
  • Storm dispatch, with the forecast in front of you. Icey dispatches the whole storm from one board, with routes optimized for traffic and priority sites first, and its Weather Center shows the forecast for your service area, with a “Notify me” alert you can switch on for when the forecast crosses your snowfall trigger.
  • Salt records built for de-icing. Icey logs the product and amount at every de-icing visit, per site, with the visit’s time, GPS, crew and photos, and keeps the amounts in your own records. RealGreen’s app records the products used on each job, with EPA numbers and application rates, and its app page doesn’t mention salt, so ask how it records salt on a snow visit.
  • A price that doesn’t grow with your crew. Icey’s paid plans include every driver. RealGreen’s pricing depends partly on the number of users.

Both put times, GPS and photos behind every visit, keep working without a signal and give the client a report, so the real question is whether snow is your whole business or your winter season. See proof of service and salt tracking.

We have not run a storm on RealGreen, so we can’t tell you how its app feels on a long night. Ask RealGreen to build its demo around a real storm, and run one on Icey’s free plan, before you decide.
