Material examples: rock salt (NaCl), treated salt, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, sand/salt mix, liquid brine (note gal/L and dilution).

Conditions: note precipitation (snow / freezing rain / clear), surface state (wet / icy / slush), and anything unusual — refreeze, drifting, blocked areas.

Retention: keep completed logs at least as long as your local statute of limitations for injury claims (commonly 2–6 years). A dated, per-site log completed at the time of service is far stronger evidence than a reconstructed one.
