Icey vs Housecall Pro for Snow Removal: Snow Tool or Home-Service Platform?

8 min read · Updated 2026-10-28

Icey and Housecall Pro both run snow removal work, but Housecall Pro is built for home service businesses across many trades. Pick Housecall Pro if you run snow alongside lawn care or other home services, want customers to book and pay online, or want “On my way” texts; pick Icey if you work only snow and ice, want de-icing priced as its own visit, or want a free plan instead of a price per user.

We make Icey Software, so read this with that in mind. Housecall Pro calls itself “the all-in-one platform built for Home Service Professionals”, and snow removal is one of the many industries it serves.

Every Housecall Pro fact below is from Housecall Pro’s own pricing page and snow removal page, as of October 2026: checked on October 28, 2026. Its prices are in USD, as its page says. Plans change, so confirm on their site before you decide.

The short answer

Pick Housecall Pro if snow is one service among several and you want a big home-service platform: online booking and card payments on every plan, GPS tracking and a sync with QuickBooks Online from Essentials, and recurring service plans and route optimization on Max. Max is $299 USD a month billed annually ($329 USD month to month) for 8 users, plus $35 USD a month for each extra user, and it offers a 14-day free trial of its Max plan, with no credit card.

Pick Icey if you work only snow and ice. Free forever up to 10 sites and 5 crew. Every feature. Paid plans are priced by sites, from $119 CAD a month for 11–35 sites, with every driver included, so a bigger crew doesn’t raise the bill. Its per-event rate cards price plowing and de-icing as separate visits, with the salt included in the price or listed separately, and its crew app keeps recording with no signal.

Housecall Pro’s plans (as of October 2026)

Every plan includes live phone and chat support, the mobile app for iOS and Android in English and Spanish, and offline viewing. Its free trial is a 14-day free trial of its Max plan, with no credit card. Housecall Pro lists no free plan.

Where Housecall Pro is stronger

  • Many trades on one platform. Housecall Pro covers HVAC, plumbing, electrical, landscaping, home cleaning and more, and its snow page says the same software runs lawn care in warmer months. Icey is for snow and ice work only.
  • Customers who book and pay online. Every plan lets customers book and pay online, takes card payments and offers consumer financing, and the snow page describes charging cards on file automatically. In Icey you record payments by hand; card payments are not built in.
  • “On my way” texts. Housecall Pro keeps customers in the loop with “On my way” texts. In Icey you email each site report with a tap, or switch on a once-a-day email.
  • A native Android app and a sync with QuickBooks Online. Housecall Pro’s app is on the App Store and Google Play, and Essentials and up sync with QuickBooks Online. Icey’s Android app is still in testing, so Android crews use the web app, and Icey exports a CSV file for QuickBooks with no direct sync.
  • Recurring plans customers manage themselves. Housecall Pro’s snow plans let customers view, renew or upgrade online, and Max adds recurring service plans.

Where Icey is stronger, or simply different

  • A free plan, and a price that doesn’t grow with your crew. Free forever up to 10 sites and 5 crew. Every feature. Paid plans are priced by sites, from $119 CAD a month for 11–35 sites, with every driver included. Housecall Pro has no free plan and prices by plan and users: 5 users on Essentials, 8 users on Max, then $35 USD a month for each extra user.
  • De-icing priced as its own visit. Icey’s per-event rate cards price plowing and de-icing as separate visits, with the salt included in the price or listed separately, and each site’s service area is drawn on satellite imagery. Accepting the quote makes the site active for the season.
  • Salt and de-icing records. Icey logs the product and amount at every de-icing visit, per site, with the visit’s time, GPS, crew and photos, and keeps the amounts in your own records. Housecall Pro’s snow page doesn’t mention salt or material records, so ask.
  • Storm dispatch, with the forecast in front of you. Icey dispatches the whole storm from one board, with routes optimized for traffic and priority sites first, and its Weather Center shows the forecast for your service area, with a “Notify me” alert you can switch on for when the forecast crosses your snowfall trigger.
  • Recording with no signal. Icey’s Field Mode keeps recording visits with no signal. Housecall Pro lists “offline viewing” on every plan, so ask what its app records when the signal drops.

Both tools put GPS and photos behind every visit, so the real question is whether snow is your whole business or one service among several. See proof of service and salt tracking.

We have not run a storm on Housecall Pro, so we can’t tell you how its app feels on a long night. Housecall Pro has a free trial and Icey has a free plan, so run a real storm on each before you decide.
