Yes. As of October 2026, three of the snow removal tools we checked list a free plan on their own websites: Icey Software (ours), Plowdesk and CrewNest. Each one limits something different, so the right one depends on how many sites, routes and people you have.
We make Icey Software, so read this with that in mind. Every fact about another tool below is from that tool’s own website, checked on October 27, 2026 and listed under Sources. Plans change, so check their site before you decide.
Quick answer
- Icey Software (ours): Free forever up to 10 sites and 5 crew. Every feature. Unlimited admin and office users and unlimited clients.
- Plowdesk: an Operator plan it calls “Free Forever”, with unlimited users and customers and up to three storm routes.
- CrewNest: a free plan for one user, with up to three estimates a month. It is built for pressure washing and lawn care as well as snow removal.
- Yeti: its pricing page lists no free plan.
- Jobber and QuoteIQ: no free plan, but each offers a 14-day free trial.
- A spreadsheet and a paper log: free, and workable for a short route you run yourself.

Which free plan fits
- More drivers than Icey’s Free plan covers, on three storm routes or fewer: Plowdesk. Its free plan counts routes, not people.
- One person running several trades, snow among them: CrewNest. Its free plan is one user, and it covers pressure washing and lawn care too.
- Snow and ice work within up to 10 sites and 5 crew: Icey. Its Free plan has every feature: per-event rate cards with plowing and de-icing priced as separate visits, with the salt included in the price or listed separately; a storm board for dispatch; a crew app with GPS and photos at every site; a salt and de-icing log per site; and a site report for every completed visit.
- You would rather try a paid tool first: Jobber gives full access to its Grow plan for 14 days with no credit card, and every QuoteIQ plan has a 14-day free trial.
What to check before you rely on a free plan
- The limit that binds first. Count this winter’s sites, crew and routes, not last winter’s.
- What growing past it costs. Ask what you would pay, and whether everything you entered stays.
- Proof of service. If clients or insurers ask for records, check that the plan records the time, GPS and photos at each visit, and that you can get them back out.
- Your crew’s phones. Icey’s iPhone app is on the App Store; Android crews use Icey in the phone’s browser. Ask each vendor about your crew’s phones.
- Getting your list in. Icey imports clients and sites from a CSV file, so you don’t retype them. Ask the others how they import.
Free without new software
A spreadsheet of sites and a paper log in each truck cost nothing, and for one truck on a short route they can be enough. They get harder once several crews work the same storm: nobody can see which sites are done, and a log written up afterwards is weaker proof than one made at the site.
Our free salt log template, storm checklist and pricing calculator work alongside a spreadsheet. Snow removal software vs spreadsheets covers when switching is worth it.
When you outgrow Icey’s Free plan
Icey’s paid plans are priced by sites, from $119 CAD a month for 11–35 sites, with every driver included. A paid plan adds room for more sites and crew, not features. Prices are in CAD; companies in the United States pay USD prices. See pricing. For a side-by-side with Plowdesk’s paid plan, see Icey vs Plowdesk.
